Ayurveda is a 5,000 year old science from the Indian sub-continent. Ayurvedic medicine looks at rebalancing the body using a wide range of treatment methods.
Ayurvedic medicine can be broken down into five main treatment methods.
1. Dietary & Lifestyle Advice
Dietary advice may be given; to correct impaired metabolism, assist with weight loss or weight gain and correct digestive imbalances which can lead to a number of health problems. Advice may include the prescription of diet programmes and weekly monitoring.
2. Herbal Medicinal Preparations
Both Indian and Western herbs are prescribed following a detailed consultation to rebalance the body. They are only prescribed when a condition exists and they are required.
3. Massage and Palliative Care Treatments
Depending on whether your body requires detoxification, healing, nourishing or relaxing; specific oils will be selected along with appropriate massage techniques to restore your body’s balance.
Following your initial consultation you may be recommended other palliative treatments.
The treatments are authentic therapeutic Ayurvedic treatments some of which you may have read about or experienced before such as Sirodhara; the pouring of warm oil backwards and forwards across your forehead inducing a very deep state of relaxation.
4. Detoxification Treatment
Inappropriate diet and lifestyle, poor digestion and general life stresses can lead to an accumulation of toxins within the body. Specific herbs and techniques are administered to excrete the toxins from the body. This may be done on a residential basis or by visiting the clinic over the course of a week or more.
5. Fertility & Pre/Post Natal Advice
The quality of the soil that the seed is planted in is vital for the growth of the plant, the same can be said about the human body. Special herbs and diet are prescribed both pre and post conception to help give the foetus its best chance at life.
